This observation shows that the southern hemisphere is warmer than the northern hemisphere during this time of year.

Latitude has an effect on temperature in the way that, the further the locations are from the equator the less light they receive. Therefore, cities that are closer to the equator are warmer in temerature and those that are further are lower in temperature.
